Digital Creator Summary
When selling digital artwork (downloads or NFTs), focus on three things: preserve your master file, choose your edition structure, and define your license clearly.
- Keep your original master artwork file untouched.
- Export separate versions for downloads or NFTs as needed.
- Choose whether your release is unlimited, limited edition, or 1-of-1.
- State your license type clearly in the listing.
- Selling physical prints instead? Use the Create Galleries workflow.
π§Ύ 1) Preserve Your Digital Master
Your master file is your archival source. Keep it full resolution and unaltered.
- Maintain a layered working file (PSD, TIFF, or equivalent).
- Do not permanently flatten or embed edition numbers into your master.
- Create separate exported files for each edition or NFT version.
- Keep a clean version for future releases or licensing.
βοΈ 2) Transparent Signature Overlay (Optional)
This is an optional branding choice. Many creators keep the digital file clean. Use an overlay only if you want a consistent signature across releases.
Step A β Create your handwritten signature (paper size + placement):
- Use clean 8.5 Γ 11 inch white copy paper.
- Sign your name in a clear area, about 3 inches wide (donβt fill the whole page).
- Leave extra white space around the signature so itβs easier to cut out cleanly.
- Use black ink for light artwork, or white/metallic ink if your artwork is usually dark.
- Let the ink dry fully to avoid smears.
Step B β Capture the signature (scan preferred):
- Scan if possible at 600 DPI (up to 1200 DPI is fine).
- If you must use a phone, shoot in bright, even light with the paper perfectly flat (no shadows).
- Save as PNG or TIFF during cleanup (avoid JPEG until final export).
Step C β Remove the paper background:
- In Photoshop / Affinity / Photopea: remove the white background so only the ink remains.
- Export the result as a transparent PNG.
Step D β Apply it (non-destructive):
- Place the signature PNG as a separate layer on top of your artwork.
- Keep it subtle: small, low-contrast, and near a margin (donβt cover focal areas).
- Export a βsignedβ version as a separate file. Keep your clean master unchanged.
Tip: Save your overlay as its own asset so your signature stays consistent across future uploads.
𧬠3) NFT Structure Options
Choose a structure that clearly defines scarcity, ownership, and licensing.
Option A β 1-of-1 NFT:
- Mint a single unique NFT.
- Best for premium or signature works.
Option B β Limited Edition NFT:
- Mint a fixed number (ex: 25, 100, 500).
- Clearly state the total supply in the listing.
- Do not increase supply after launch.
Option C β Open Edition NFT:
- Unlimited minting for a defined time window.
- Closes automatically after the window ends.
Consistency matters: Your edition size, listing description, and on-chain supply should always match.
π§Ύ TrekO Recommended Workflow
Use this workflow to keep image quality high and keep buyers clear on what theyβre purchasing.
- Finalize your master artwork/photo file (archival source).
- Export your delivery file (the exact resolution/format you will sell).
- Choose your structure: Open Edition, Limited Edition, or 1-of-1.
- Set your License Type (Personal / Commercial / Extended / Custom) and include terms in the listing.
- If you want branding, optionally add a subtle signature overlay (not required).
- If creating NFTs, mint using the same edition structure and keep your supply consistent.
- Archive your master + exports safely for future updates or verification.
Producing physical limited-edition prints too? Use the Create Galleries workflow for print signing/numbering.
